The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has pledged full support to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Ajit Pawar, for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the Lakshadweep parliamentary constituency. Ajit Pawar's faction of the NCP has not yet declared its candidate for the seat.

"BJP stands firmly behind the NCP (Ajit Pawar) candidate in Lakshadweep. Together, the NDA can and will secure victory," announced Vinod Tawde, the BJP's national general secretary, on social media platform X.

In response, the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP criticized the BJP's move.

"The BJP is trivializing and ridiculing the Ajit Pawar-led faction, attempting to portray themselves as generous in their support. Their previous performance in Lakshadweep, with just 125 votes in the last Lok Sabha elections, speaks volumes. This demonstrates the value the BJP places on the Ajit Pawar faction," remarked Clyde Crasto, national spokesperson for the NCP (SP), on platform X.

In the previous general election, Mohammad Faisal PP, affiliated with the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP, emerged victorious in the Lakshadweep constituency. However, the Congress has nominated former Lok Sabha member Mohammad Hamadullah Sayeed as its candidate for the upcoming elections. In the 2019 polls, Faisal secured 22,851 votes, defeating Hamadullah Sayeed by 823 votes, while the BJP managed to garner only 125 votes.
